๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ How Do You Escape From a Dopamine Hole?

Hello friend,

I hope you've had a good week.

I'm in a particularly good mood as the sun is out and it's a bank holiday weekend. I'm planning to spend the weekend biking around the island (I just got a new e-bike and I love it), seeing friends, and pottering in the garden (desperatly trying to convince myself I enjoy weeding...!)

I hope you have something nice planned for this weekend.

Here's your digest for today.

โ€‹This week's doodle essay is all about dopamine: what it is, what happens when you fall into a dopamine hole, and how I get out of one. I'm curious: how do you escape from a dopamine hole?

This doodle was inspired by one of the articles I shared last week.

Here are some articles from other creators I thought you might enjoy:

  • โ€‹This fabulous essay by Rachel Lawlan reminds us that it is never too late to start your dream career (Rachel started psychotherapy training at 52).
  • โ€‹In this article, author Caroline Donahue shares seven ways she is able to read more than most.
  • I'll admit, this recent Ness Labs newsletter hit a little close to home, The Hobby-Hustle Trap.

If you're curious about the books I'm reading, you can see my library in Notion here: Martine's Library. I am currently binge listening to Yesteryear and enjoying it far more than I expected. Have you read it? If so, what did you think?

๐Ÿ“บ Watch

I enjoyed this video from Matt D'Avella on how trying to "optimise" his life made it worse. He speaks from the perspective of a parent much of the time, but I still enjoyed watching (as someone who is child-free).

I adore Hannah Fry. This 20-minute video about AI agents is a very interesting watch.

Hello friend, I hope you've had a great week. Mine has been pleasingly busy. I have a few places left, so if you're on-island, available, and interested, I'd love to see you there. It's Liberation Day today in Guernsey, so...
