πŸ”Ž Could You Turn Your Anxiety Into Curiosity?

Hello friend,

I hope you've had a great week.

I've been in rest mode after completing the London Landmarks Half Marathon last weekend for the National Autistic Society. Thank you to everyone who sent messages, made donations, and supported me in some way.

If you've done a race like this before, you'll know there are photographers dotted around the course. You'll also know it is rare to get any "acceptable" photos, as only elite athletes look good running πŸ˜‚ However, I rather liked the photo below as I am so focused on my task. This was towards the end of the race and it felt TOUGH...

Anyway, I risk becoming a running bore, so enough of that! I missed writing to you last weekend, so let's crack on with today's digest...

✏️ Doodle Essays

This week's doodle essay explores an idea I read about in a Ness Labs article: The Anxiety-Curiosity Switch. When I teach public speaking, I often encourage reframing nerves as excitement. I like the idea of swapping excitement for curiosity as it feels more sustainable (although perhaps trickier in the public speaking context). What do you think?

Here are some articles from other creators I thought you might enjoy:

  • This is a great read from Parker's Ponderings about creating your own university course to learn almost anything.
  • Dr Samantha Boardman explains The Overview Effect in this article and provides science-backed ideas for finding more awe in your life.
  • I enjoyed this article from Wes Kao's archives about using signposting keywords to improve written communication.

πŸ“Ί Watch

I've got five books on the go at the moment so I definitely need more reading time in my life. This video from Ryan Holiday has a few ideas I need to take note of (although I tend to read digitally, so I don't plan on spilling food on my books any time soon).

TV wise, I loved watching The Other Bennet Sister recently and I remain obsessed with The Pitt.
