📺📱 Can We Talk About Second-Screening?

Hello friend,

Happy November.

Thank you to everyone who purchased my new masterclass, Trust Your Task List. I’ve told the world (well, social media!) that the launch price ended yesterday, but—between us—I won’t have time to update the website until tomorrow. So you still have another day to grab the masterclass at this special price.

If you’ve ever been curious about how I manage the various contexts, projects, and tasks in my life and want to do similar in Todoist, here’s the link you need: Trust Your Task List.

By the way, purchasing one of my resources is a brilliant way to support the free content I share here and elsewhere, so thank you. If Trust Your Task List is not for you, I have some other new products coming soon. Watch this space.

Now, onto the digest.

✏️ Doodle Essays

I have two doodle essays for you this week.

The first offers a thought-provoking question: Is your regret a form of perfectionism? I'd love to know your reflections on this one.

The second explores the (bizarre but embarrassingly relatable) habit known as second-screening.

I also have an October Now page update for you, too. This update includes some personal news. If you're Guernsey-based or curious about how this tiny island operates, you might be particularly interested: Martine's Now Page.

📚 Read

Here are some articles from other creators I thought you might enjoy:

  • This article by Dr Samantha Boardman frames optimism as a strategic advantage and pessimism as "a form of cognitive self-sabbotage".
  • I enjoyed reading this article on Simon Sinek's website; it's therapist Dr Sara Kubric's perspective on workplace friendships.
  • Continuing with this positive, optimistic theme, I enjoyed this recent newsletter from Ness Labs, particularly the tips to help you notice the good things.

If you're curious about the books I'm reading, you can see my library in Tana here: Library.

📺 Watch

I am bursting with pride for my friend Andy, who delivered his first TEDx talk last month. Andy shares how journaling helped him get through two life-altering events. It's a fabulous talk that I encourage you to watch.

🎧 Listen

I loved listening to Professor Brian Cox talking with Fearne Cotton on the Happy Place podcast yesterday. Their episode is called Is there life after death? What happens when we die, with Brian Cox. (I found the episode uplifting and enlightening, despite the title!)

I listen to podcasts in the Snipd app, but you can find shows and episodes I recommend on your preferred podcast platform. Use my referral link to get a month of Snipd Premium for free.

I know it's not a podcast, but can I take a moment for Fiona Shaw's narration of the third audiobook in the Thursday Murder Club series? She's fabulous. These books have forced me to fully embrace the cosy crime genre (as well as middle age 🤣).

That's all from me today. Have a great week, and I will be in touch again next weekend.

Best wishes,

Martine

P.S. Don't forget to grab the Trust Your Task List masterclass today, before the price goes up.

Hello friend, With the end of 2025 being so close, I'm in a reflective mood. I thought it would be fun to look back at the year through my doodles. I created 150 doodles this year. Because there are so many, I have selected my top 12 to share in today’s digest. Choosing favourites was difficult. While I am pleased with the artwork in some, most were chosen because of the message they convey. I encourage you to read the short essays that accompany each one. You might find it helpful to...

Hello friend, With just 18 days left in 2025, now is a great time to reflect on the year and think about next year. To help, this weekend's digest has an annual review flavour. I am sharing several doodles, articles, and podcasts from my archive to support your reflection and goal-setting. I hope you'll consider running some personal experiments alongside your goals next year and see how that feels (if you haven't read Tiny Experiments for inspiration yet, now would be a great time). I also...

Hello friend, I've been feeling that "end of year" energy this week. What about you? I like the emphasis on slowing down a little, reflecting, and planning rest. On the subject of rest, I'm going to take a couple of weeks off over the holiday period. This means I won't send a weekend digest email on 27 December or 3 January. I've already started planning my last two digests of the year for you, though, and I am excited to send them. Next weekend's email will have an annual review and planning...
